Bosom Buddies: WE NEED YOU!
About the Breast Cancer Society of Canada
We are a national organization with a family focused foundation, firmly established by Lawrence and Kay Greenaway, in memory of their daughter, Pam. Pam died of breast cancer at a very young age, leaving behind two small children and a loving husband. The Greenaway Family’s tragedy and grief was positively transformed into a mission, to raise money to fund the research that could ultimately cure this devastating disease. Like many good family ideas, the Greenaway’s charitable endeavour began in 1991 in the basement of their family home. They raised $2,000 that first year. Their family based legacy is being carried forward by a growing number of dedicated volunteers, a board of directors and a professional staff.
To this day, we continue to embrace the Greenaway’s philosophy about people’s generous contributions: rather than spending precious donor dollars needlessly on the cost of maintaining offices across the country, we continue to operate from one office and manage an active outreach program. We are strong believers in a one-on-one approach with our donors, supporters, business partners and volunteers. This personal touch enables us to handle every event with due regard given to the unique needs that each requires.

About the Bosom Buddy Program
Our Bosom Buddy program is a "national" volunteer initiative that was launched to ensure that the Breast Cancer Society of Canada has a "presence" at all events taking place across the country. We feel strongly about supporting all BCSC activities however the cost and time spent on travel is not always feasible. When we can't be there, we are proud to send Bosom Buddies in our place!
If you are a local Bosom Buddy we will rely on your help with daily office tasks, event preparations like assembling kits for "Dress for the Cause" or assist with organizing our annual golf tournament. If you live elsewhere, your role as a Bosom Buddy will be unique. Some of your duties could include handing out ribbons and information at events in your area, going to a school or business to accept a cheque on our behalf or deliver pamphlets to your local breast screening clinic. Your role is vital to our success as it enables us to keep all travel expenses to a minimum. We encourage both groups to be active promoters of breast health in their communities!
You will also receive our new eNewsletter that is exclusively for Bosom Buddies. The goal of this newsletter is to create a "community" that will encourage camaraderie as well as a sense of pride for being someone who "takes action". We hope that it will also promote a feeling of sharing, of belonging and ultimately, friendships... not only with fellow Bosom Buddies but with all of us here at the Breast Cancer Society of Canada.
If you are interested in joining the Bosom Buddy team and would like more information about our program, please email Johanne.
